Engineering Doctorate
A collaboration of ISLI, the electronics industry and the universitiesof Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde, the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme provides outstanding opportunities for fully-funded, high-level research based in industry.

Lasting 4 years, EngD is equivalent in academic standing to a conventional PhD, yet it is more industrially focused, placing emphasis on research within a business context. EngD students combine technical and business studies with a doctoral research project based with a sponsoring company.

All students are sponsored by an industry partner, and work on research agreed by the sponsor, tackling real industrial problems and solving a challenging problem that may result in significant financial benefits for the company. All student-generated IP is owned by the sponsor.

Up to five fully-funded EngD places are offered by FHPCA to companies of any size involved or interested in FPGA research, subject to certain qualifying conditions. Funding is provided by EPSRC and Scottish Enterprise.
